Open Settings, Battery, Battery Health & Charging, and look at Maximum Capacity. Below about 80 percent, or any message about significant degradation, means the battery is at the end of its useful life. Also trust the symptoms: sudden shutdowns at 20 to 30 percent, a phone that only feels reliable on the charger, or screen-on time that has quietly halved. Any one of those is the battery talking.

Apple's out-of-warranty battery service is $99 for most recent iPhones, usually with an appointment days out or a mail-in wait. If you have active AppleCare+ and your battery is below 80 percent, Apple replaces it free, and we will tell you to go do that.
How long does it take?+

Classic end-of-life battery behavior. A worn battery cannot hold voltage under load, so the phone miscalculates the remaining charge and then shuts down to protect itself when the voltage sags. A new battery fixes both the jumping gauge and the early shutdowns.
My iPhone battery is swollen. What do I do?+
Stop using and stop charging the phone now. A swollen lithium battery pushing the screen or back apart is a fire risk, not a cosmetic problem. Do not press on it, do not fly with it, bring it in and we will replace it safely, and check whether the swelling damaged the screen seal.
Will I get the Important Battery Message after your replacement?+
On iPhone XR and newer, iOS pairs the battery to the board at the factory, so any battery not installed through Apple's own system shows a notice in Settings that the battery is not verified genuine. It is informational: the phone works normally and Battery Health still functions on most models. We tell you this up front because honest is our whole thing.
Is it worth replacing the battery on an older iPhone?+
Usually, yes. A $69 to $89 battery buys an iPhone 11, 12, or 13 another one to two years of comfortable life, which is the cheapest phone upgrade that exists.
