The repair shop Get My Auto recommends to its dealers

Get My Auto is a browser-based dealer management platform for independent dealerships. It runs on Mac, Windows, Chromebook, iOS, and Android. In May 2022 it acquired AutoXplorer, which had sold dealer software and hardware to used-car lots since 1996 and had more than 20,000 installations across the United States.

Get My Auto describes its platform as cloud-based and browser-based, which is why a dead workstation does not take your deals with it: log in from any other computer and keep working while we fix the hardware. What lives on the machine itself, and what we protect first, is everything saved locally: scanned contracts, spreadsheets, and downloaded forms. When a workstation, a laptop, a printer, or the lot's network fails, that is hardware, and hardware is what we fix. Questions about the DMS software itself go to Get My Auto support.

What breaks at a dealership, and what we do about it

A dealership runs on a handful of machines that cannot be down for long: the F&I and desking workstations, the sales-floor and manager laptops, the service-lane PCs, the printers that produce the contracts, and the WiFi that ties the showroom to the lot. Here is what we see most, what we do about it, and the same prices we publish for everyone else.

What failedWhat we doPublished price
F&I or desking workstation will not bootDiagnostic, then either a swap-in part (power supply, drive, memory) or board-level repair, meaning we fix the failed chip on the computer's main board instead of replacing the whole boardQuoted after diagnostic; board repair 2 to 5 business days
Sales or manager laptop, cracked screen or dead batteryRepair at the shop or on-siteQuoted after diagnostic
Slow workstation on an old hard driveSwap the old spinning hard drive for an SSD (a chip-based drive with no moving parts, several times faster), with everything on the old drive copied over$149 to $349 (typical 500GB to 1TB $199 to $249)
Deal files on a dead driveData recovery, in-house first$149 to $349 logical, $299 to $799 board or controller, cleanroom cases $1,000 to $2,500 through a partner lab
Dead zones on the lot or in the service laneWiFi survey, then either a mesh system (several small WiFi units placed around the building that hand off to each other) or wired access points, plus any cablingRouter from $89, mesh $199 to $499, business installs quoted after a free walkthrough
Printer offline or jammingOn-site serviceQuoted after a walkthrough

Equipment is separate on network work: routers, access points, switches, and cable are priced as their own line so you can see what the labor is. RAM upgrades run $200 to $400, and MacBook logic board repair, for the managers who carry Macs, is $349 to $599 and done in-house. Full ranges for everything we fix are on the repair prices page.

How a dealership visit works

Call or text Mon-Fri 9 AM to 6 PM, Sat-Sun 10 AM to 4 PM, and we schedule the visit. From there it runs the same way every time.

1

Call or text

Tell us what is down and where. We schedule the visit, or you drop the machine at the shop. Have ready: the Windows or Mac login for that machine, the BitLocker or FileVault recovery key if the drive is encrypted (without it no one can read the drive), the name of who will meet us on the floor, and the power brick if it is a laptop.

2

Walkthrough

For a dead workstation or laptop we go straight to that machine. For WiFi, printer, or cabling problems we walk the showroom, the offices, the service lane, and the lot, because those faults are rarely in one box.

3

Free diagnostic

We find the fault. On a dead machine the drive comes out or gets imaged first.

4

Written quote

Parts, labor, and turnaround in writing. Nothing starts until you approve it.

5

Repair

On-site when it can be. Chip-level repair on the main board goes to the bench in Irvine, 2 to 5 business days.

6

Warranty

Warranty on parts and labor on every repair, on-site or at the shop.

Data first, board second

If your machine is dead right now, leave it off until we see it. On any dead machine we image or pull the drive before board work begins. The scanned contracts, the spreadsheets, and the downloaded forms saved on a desking workstation matter more than the workstation, and a failed board repair should never take the drive down with it. This is how we work, not a guarantee of what a damaged drive will give up. If the drive itself has failed, the free evaluation comes before any recovery work, and the recovery happens on our own bench, with a partner cleanroom lab only for head replacement cases.

Mail-in for dealers outside the on-site area

Anything that fits in a box ships: a desktop workstation, a laptop, or a bare drive pulled from a machine. Wrap it well, include a note with the dealership name, a phone number, and what happened, and send it to the shop in Irvine. We call with the diagnosis and a written quote before any work, and the machine ships back once the repair is done. Board-level repair and data recovery both happen in-house, so a mailed machine goes through the same bench and the same process a local dealership gets.

Where we go

On-site service covers Orange County, Los Angeles County, and the Inland Empire. The shop sits near Jamboree Road and I-405 in Irvine, which puts the county's main dealer clusters minutes away: the Tustin Auto Center off the 5 at Tustin Ranch Road, with its 15 brands; the Irvine Auto Center; the Santa Ana Auto Mall at the 55 and Edinger; the Beach Boulevard dealer corridor in Huntington Beach; and the Harbor Boulevard corridor in Santa Ana. Independent lots between and beyond those clusters are covered the same way.

Orange County

Tustin Auto Center, Irvine Auto Center, Santa Ana Auto Mall, Beach Boulevard, Harbor Boulevard, and independent lots countywide.

Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire

On-site visits scheduled by call or text. Same prices and same process as Orange County.

Nationwide by mail-in

Workstations, laptops, and drives ship to the shop in Irvine and ship back when the repair is done.

We do not publish an arrival window for dealership visits, because a workstation that will not boot and a lot-wide WiFi survey are not the same size of job. Call or text, tell us what is down, and we schedule the visit around your floor.

Who does the work

Sam, our lead technician, has 12+ years of experience and has been repairing dealership computers for 12 years. Board-level repair is done in-house: logic boards and motherboards are repaired on our own bench, 2 to 5 business days, rather than the machine being written off and replaced.

Sunset Car Co, a used-car dealership in Santa Ana, has us handle its computer work.

The same bench handles data recovery, micro soldering, and network installation for homes and small offices across Orange County, so the tools and the parts stock are already in place when a dealership calls.

Dealership repair questions

Do you come to the dealership, or do we bring the machine to you?+

Either. For a workstation that is wired into the F&I desk, a printer, or anything to do with the network, we come to the dealership. Call or text and we schedule the visit. For a single laptop or desktop, drop-off at the shop in Irvine works too and is often quicker, because the bench, the parts, and the board-level tools are all there.

Which areas do you cover on-site?+

Orange County, Los Angeles County, and the Inland Empire. That includes the Tustin Auto Center, the Irvine Auto Center, the Santa Ana Auto Mall, the Beach Boulevard corridor in Huntington Beach, and the Harbor Boulevard corridor in Santa Ana, all minutes from the shop, along with independent lots anywhere in those three regions. Dealers outside the on-site area can mail in workstations, laptops, and drives.

Can you recover deal files from a computer that will not turn on?+

Often, yes, and it is the first thing we look at. Until we get there, leave the machine off: do not keep trying to boot it, do not let anyone run a recovery tool on it, and do not plug the drive into another computer. A machine that will not turn on does not always mean a failed drive; the fault can be in the board or the power supply, so we take the drive out or copy it whole to a safe drive before touching anything else. If the drive itself has failed, it becomes a data recovery case, done in-house: logical recoveries $149 to $349, PCB or controller swap $299 to $599, SSD and NVMe controller failure $399 to $799, RAID and NAS rebuilds $499 to $1,500, and cleanroom head replacement through a partner lab $1,000 to $2,500. The evaluation is free and nothing starts without your approval.

Do you work on our DMS?+

No. We fix the hardware and the network the DMS runs on: the workstation, the laptop, the printer, the WiFi, and the cabling. Questions about the Get My Auto platform itself go to Get My Auto support. If you are not sure whether the problem is the machine or the software, the diagnostic on the machine is free, so start with us and we will tell you whether the hardware checks out.

What does a visit cost?+

It depends on what is wrong. The diagnostic and the network walkthrough are free, and you get the price in writing before work starts. Repairs use the same ranges we publish for everyone: SSD upgrades $149 to $349, RAM upgrades $200 to $400, MacBook logic board repair $349 to $599. Printer work, cabling, and larger network installs are quoted after the walkthrough, with equipment separate.

Can you fix the WiFi on the lot?+

Yes. A lot has problems a house does not: long distances, metal and glass everywhere, and a service lane that may sit in a separate building. We walk the showroom, the offices, the service lane, and the lot, note where the signal drops, and quote the fix in writing. Router setup starts at $89, a mesh system (several WiFi units that cover the building together) runs $199 to $499 depending on size and how many units it takes, and business and multi-floor installs are quoted on-site after the walkthrough. Cabling to the service lane or a detached building goes in the same quote. Equipment is separate.

We are outside California. Can you still help?+

Yes, by mail-in: a desktop workstation, a laptop, or a bare drive. Pack it well and ship it to the shop in Irvine. We call with the diagnosis and the price before touching it. Board-level repair and data recovery both happen in-house, so the machine is not forwarded anywhere unless a failed drive needs a cleanroom, and you hear about that before it happens.
