A cracked screen is the most common repair there is, and somehow the hardest one to price before you walk into a shop. The answer spans $89 to $899 depending on what device it is, which is useless as a single number. So here it is broken out properly: our published prices for every device type, Apple's published prices next to them, and what pushes any quote toward the top or bottom of its range.

These are the numbers we quote at the counter at Computer Clinic Irvine, the same ones published across our service pages and price list. Your local market may sit a little higher or lower, but the ratios between devices travel anywhere.

The Prices, Charted

Chart of published screen replacement prices by device: iPhone X through 13 at $89 to $189, iPhone 14 and 15 including Pro at $169 to $329 versus Apple's $279 to $379, iPad Air and 10th gen at $189 to $279, MacBook Pro at $399 to $599 versus Apple's $599 to $899, PC laptop at $150 to $400
Our prices as published on our Irvine service pages; Apple figures from their published out-of-warranty service pricing.

Two patterns worth noticing. Screens get cheaper as devices age, sharply: an iPhone 12 screen costs half of what a 15 Pro screen does, because panel supply matures. And the gap between an independent bench and Apple is widest exactly where the repair is most expensive, on MacBooks, where the difference runs $200 to $300 for the same fix.

What Moves a Screen Quote Up or Down

  • The panel technology. OLED costs more than LCD, high-refresh costs more than 60Hz, and a 4K touch laptop panel can cost triple what a standard 1080p panel does. The device maker chose your panel; the quote inherits that choice.
  • Genuine vs. quality aftermarket. On iPhones especially, you usually have a choice between an original-quality panel and a high-grade aftermarket one at different prices, and we tell you which is which before you commit.
  • What the screen is attached to. A MacBook "screen" is a whole lid assembly with hinges, camera, and antennas. An iPad screen is glued glass over a separate LCD. An iPhone screen is one modular part. Same crack, very different jobs.
  • Collateral damage. The drop that cracked the glass sometimes bends a frame or damages hinges. That gets named as its own line at the free diagnostic, never discovered on the invoice.

Device by Device

iPhone: $89 to $329, done in 30 to 60 minutes

Older models (X through 13) run $89 to $189 at our bench. Current models run $169 to $229 standard and $249 to $329 for Pro screens, against Apple's published $279 to $379. Most models are in stock and replaced while you wait. Details on the iPhone and iPad repair page.

iPad: $189 to $279 for the common models, drop-off

iPad glass is glued down over a separate display, so the job is careful heat-and-lift work rather than a quick swap. That is why iPads are drop-off rather than while-you-wait, and why a shop that rushes one often returns it worse. Apple's published range for the same models runs $249 to $379.

MacBook: $399 to $599, the biggest savings on the chart

Modern MacBook displays come as complete lid assemblies, which is why nothing on a MacBook screen is cheap. Apple's published price for a MacBook Pro display runs $599 to $899, and repairs often mean mailing it to a depot. Ours run $399 to $599, done in-house, usually same or next day when the assembly for your model is in stock. More on the Mac repair page.

PC laptop: $150 to $400, panel-dependent

The widest range because the panels vary the most: a standard 1080p panel sits near the bottom, high-resolution, touch, and high-refresh panels climb from there. Most are same or next day depending on panel stock. See the computer repair page for the rest of the laptop menu.

The Cracked-but-Working Trap

"It still works, I will fix it later" is how a $129 repair becomes a $300 one. What changes while you wait:

  • Cracks spread. Every pocket flex and temperature swing extends them. A corner chip that needed only glass work can grow into a crack across the display itself.
  • The seal is broken. A cracked screen ends your phone's water resistance. Pocket humidity and one rainy day now reach the inside, and corrosion repair costs far more than glass.
  • Touch goes next. Cracks that cross digitizer lines create dead zones and ghost touches, which can turn a glass-only price into a full assembly price.
  • Your finger loses either way. Screen protectors over cracks are a bandage. Ask anyone who has swiped across exposed cracked glass for a month.

When a Screen Is Not Worth Fixing

The same rule as every repair: if the screen quote is under half of what the working device is worth, fix it. A $129 screen on an iPhone 12 worth $300 clears the bar. A $400 panel on an eight-year-old laptop worth $200 does not, and we will say so at the diagnostic.

One option people forget: a device with a cracked screen still has value. If the math says do not fix it, we buy used and broken devices, and the offer on a cracked-but-working phone often covers a real chunk of its replacement. Fix it, sell it, or both, the free diagnostic prices all three paths.
